New Delhi – In a dramatic protest outside the residence of Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal accused the government of failing to address the serious issue of contaminated water supply in the capital. During the demonstration, Maliwal poured dirty water, allegedly collected from the residence of an army officer in Dwarka, and displayed a bottle of “black” contaminated water, calling it a “sample” of the pollution plaguing Delhi.
Maliwal expressed her frustration over the water quality in areas such as Sagarpur and Dwarka, claiming residents have been receiving unclean water. “Since 2015, we have been hearing promises that things will improve next year. This water—can anyone in Delhi drink this? It’s shameful,” she stated. She warned Atishi that if the situation does not improve within 15 days, she would return with a tanker full of similar water.
The MP criticized Atishi for allegedly prioritizing press conferences over pressing issues affecting the populace. “With festivals like Chhath Puja and Govardhan Puja approaching, this is the condition of our water supply. Who can survive on this?” Maliwal asked.
In response to the protest, AAP MLA Vinay Mishra, the new Vice Chairman of the Delhi Jal Board (DJB), defended the government, asserting that the BJP has been obstructing the agency’s operations. He pledged to work diligently to resolve the water and sewer issues faced by Delhi residents, emphasizing that the return of Arvind Kejriwal to power would lead to more effective solutions.
As tensions rise over water quality in the capital, the coming weeks will be crucial for the Delhi government to address these allegations and restore public confidence in the city’s water supply system.
