Chris Evans recently took to Instagram to address misinformation circulating around an old photo that had resurfaced. The photo, captured eight years ago during a USO tour, depicted Evans seemingly signing what appeared to be a missile. However, Evans clarified that the object in question is not a missile, bomb, or any other kind of weapon.
Evans posted on his Instagram Story, saying, “There’s a lot of misinformation surrounding this picture.” He elaborated further, “The object I was asked to sign is not a bomb, or a missile, or a weapon of any kind.” The photo had been misinterpreted on social media, leading some fans to criticize Evans for allegedly autographing an Israeli bomb.
However, Evans set the record straight by explaining the true context of the image. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the photograph was taken during a USO tour in Turkey in December 2016. Evans, along with a group of fellow celebrities, was there to show appreciation for US service members.
An Air Force spokesperson confirmed Evans’ statement, telling The Hollywood Reporter that the object he signed was an explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) inert training aid, designed to model an artillery shell for training purposes. The photo had gained traction online amid the ongoing tension between Israel and Gaza, leading to the misunderstanding.
Evans’ clarification underscores the importance of verifying information before jumping to conclusions, particularly in a time of heightened sensitivity.
